i want something that is real

ok what the hell, we got our midterms back for ece 108 right, here are the results:

Highest score: 54 / 100
Students with 30 points or higher: 10
Cutoff between C-/D : 17 points
Students with 17 points or lower: 30

Ok, so basically like our entire class got beat down on the midterm, and prof. coles was upset with us. he gaves us a lecture today, and below is just the gist of what he said:

He noted that since we are 3rd year Engineering students, we should already be good enough at writing lab reports AND understand the material. he feels that we're just trying to turn in a lab report on time, and not trying to understand the material. it works in lower division classes and even in high school, but it won't work in this class. we're not stupid nor lazy, we're just not effectively working. we put hours into beautiful lab reports, but we don't take the time to read lecture notes or understand the material. he (the prof) spells out exactly what we need to do, we'd be able to do it. we are the best direction followers of any class he's had. however we are the worst at working effectively. for those of us who are in the danger zone of 17 or lower, we need to rethink our career choices. if all we're good at is following directions, then we can just become technicians. if you want to be an engineer, you'll have to be able to do more.

and so he went on and on like this for 5 minutes. he notes that there are quite a few of us who are going to get Fs, but by being at discussion it shows we're not the type of students who "are just too cool to go to section", and those who aren't even there are the ones likely to fail. but he knows that there are still some of the danger zone students present anyway.

you see, the problem is, yeah that's true, and it's nice to have a reality check, BUT DON'T DISCOURAGE US. it's one thing to tell us that we're in trouble, but do you have to go to the point where you discourage some of us from continuing in electrical engineering? encourage us to do well in the class by telling us we need to improve our study habits, but don't be trying to bring us down to the point where you're making us not want to be engineers anymore. on behalf of the entire class of ECE 108, we all hate you professor coles.

omg that felt good typing that out :-D
