if you don't give a damn don't throw it up

everytime i think that i don't have enough time for apsa, they come along and show me i'm part of the family still

apsa hsc X was memorable indeed. too close for comfort through some parts of the day but fortunately it turned out to be a success. should i go into how stuff went? hmm... sure why not. it's a holiday today (veterans day), and yesterday was my sister Melanie's 25th birthday, and my friend Lucie's 21st birthday, and also El Presidente Ian's 20th birthday. dang people, i want a November 10th birthday too now. today i hung out and ate with my family @ home cause we got a grip of food, and i gave my sister her New York Yankee hooded sweatshirt and her Cinnamoroll Pen & Pencil (props to you if you figured that out through the censors; the Caroline being a big Yankee fan might have helped).

oh right the high school conference. from my eyes of 3 hours of sleep, but a world of adrenaline...

800 am

after struggling to fully wake up i got to the Info booth and made myself a name tag and got ready. then the chaos started.

- richard chou didn't have enough nametags so we went over to the Sungod Lounge and i logged into my ieng9 so we could print. of course there were random printing problems like memory usage, and also there was the constant hoping that my account still had cash. my chair deborah was there to keep me company so i wouldn't sit there all alone at least.

- soap reported that the stapling machine @ Copy Club didn't work so he had to get the programs stapled that morning. they took all the programs and went through a mad stapling party out on library walk.

- the delays caused some high school students to have to wait a while, which isn't good cause it makes em bored i think. the schedule of the day thus started a little late.

10:00am

my shift as assistant director to homeland security begun as the conference started. my starting post was the South entrance into the PC Ballroom, just guiding students up the walkway to Library Walk registration. nothing quite too hard about it.

afterward i watched the parking lot, to enforce our spaces. and omg u know what, nobody has any respect for "Reserved Parking". these people just drive up to it "oh we're just going up to the bookstore really quickly". when they went i really had the urge to slash some tires, but then i'll save that when i become a part time Police Officer when i'm older. so i just had to make sure nobody stayed for more than 20 minutes.

funny story: so 5 students were leaving saying they're going to their cars and coming back. so they all get in their car which is in the turnaround and i just wait for them so they can come back into the price center. but instead of dropping off their stuff, for real they just sat there in their car and chilled. they probably were going to just sit out one of the workshop sessions. so i radio in asking what to do and they say "well are they going anywhere"? i said no, the car is parked they're just sitting there. i just ask for help, so Little Ricky comes in and we both walk to the car to make sure they're still inside. I radio in more help and Richard says he's coming. well he meant it. Richard came with Tiffany and 5 other floaters and i'm like omg what are you guys going to do, JUMP the car? like everyone surround it and take em at gunpoint? i just wanted someone to tell me waht to do, i didn't ask for an entire strike team. but oh man that was funny, hahahahaha. i couldn't stop laughing so i went up to center hall and watched from a view. hahahahahahaha. lololol.

12:00pm

it was time to go to switch posts to the South end of Library Walk. from this vantage point i had an entire view of LW and a downhill perspective towards the parking lot. so pretty much i could see all the perimeter traffic outside of the Price Center. it was still tricky without any backside pursuit of the northeastern exits to the ATMs, but Little Ricky was there to hold down the fort at the parking lot. having the radio really helped thanks to david who let me use jillian's when she went home.

3:10pm

still perched upon a block on library walk under a light pole, the meandering blase of security work started to get to me. i realized i was sitting, watching nothing, for hours. it reminded me of MTV's Fear, where people had to wait in haunted areas for several hours, in radio silence, with nothing to do but try to avoid creeping themselves out in a haunted house. it was similar cause all i did was stare at a barren price center cause everyone was in workshop. i couldn't even see the interior of the PC, so i couldn't see any floaters walking around.

chris came by for catering and asked me to help him with tables, and that was good because i was in desparate need of human contact. alice even called me on the phone just to say hi, so that was cool too. but then catering came so i couldn't talk to her anymore =(

the shift continued all the way to dinner

6:00pm

brian saved me by bringing me some food; shredded pork & terriyaki chicken & macaroni salad & rice =-0

i was reluctant to eat in front of students cause that doesn't look professional when the security guards are eating and not watching their posts. but we had to chill by this group of students who were talking smack to another group of guys and were huddling together, which is a sign of a scrap. i mean in high school guys just like to talk, show each other up, but it was different now cause it was on a college campus and they were out of their high school, so they wouldn't get in trouble for it. so mohan richard and kevin got like right up in there and got some armed CSOs on the scene and jeff was keeping an eye on the place too. he said not to take matters into our own hands and i was thinking "great there goes all the fun in that" lol.

7:00pm to the end

we had a problem with everyone leaving the hsc and way too many wristbands to cut. it would be too hard to enforce "i'm just going to drop my stuff off in my car" between "i'm going home forever" so i persuaded richard to let the students just keep the wristbands so there wouldn't be too much confusion and confrontation between students and security. well it worked well for the most part except during entertainment when we had some strange cases of students coming back.

i was watching the back fire alarms inside the ballroom when the CSOs came in and asked me to identify a few people:

1: three girls from Mira Mesa said they were here for the conference. problem: it was already 8pm. they said that the flier they got said 8-11, and they assumed 8pm - 11pm. kimby was strong enough to not let them win the argument so she sent them outside (i think they're still sitting there outside last time i saw them. gj)

2: three more girls came back with their wristbands, unpunched for some odd-ass reason. i'm like "who was your facilitator" and they said "group 1" but then i think their facilitators went home. tiffany came out and talked to them then was like "ok i'm going back inside" and i'm like omg wtf you're letting me decide this? so she's like fine and lets them in.

3: a guy named Cliff (a student here at ucsd) came here to help out at the hsc, only thing was that the conference was OVER. what did he want to help clean up?? i think he just wanted to watch the entertainment and dance, so i talked to him outside with Mikey and asked him what a high school conference was. he described it pretty well and since he understood the purpose was of the conference, we let him in. i even tried to give him trick questions about the conference but he got em all right.

so after the conference ended the new family of me victor soap and michael took pictures, and if i do say so myself we're probably the hottest family in apsa right now (2 gq 4 u), and we're right up there with the Terrence family. i did my thing at the dance (always good to see high school students who aren't standing by the walls chillin).

i ran off home (i lost my camera pouch in the foyer somewhere, anyone find it?) and then went like, straight to bed.

there are only like 6 pictures on the side, didn't get a chance to take much since i was VOID of human contact throughout the day !!! >:O

but if i had to do it all over again, i'd sign up for security in a snap. gj Ricky & the T-Chai, and props out to my bosses Little Ricky and the D-Lee.
