i love the way, i love the way

*this blog was started on sunday oct 26, and resumed and completed monday oct 27*

it's 420am, my clocks are all set back, and it's time to hit it off like none other; it's the FG2k3 blog

-- Friday Afternoon --

Parting with alice as she dropped me off @ ethnic studies, i went to lecture and for the first 40 minutes thought we were quiz-free until he hides it on the very last slide of his notes, so i had to bean together my explanation of how African slavery started because Europeans needed to replace all the dying Indigenous slaves. then i went to go grab lunch at Sam Woo, with a one item brocolli beef and chow mein combo and ate it to-go @ utc. while there i was walking back to my car and saw the Shoe Magik booth i saw at del mar fair and was like, oh man if they work on my shoes i'm so going to pay out, and hopefully my $27 investment (yes i was talked into buying the super huge kit) will make my shoes last more than a year now.

i went with my bineg over to sungod and chilled and met some new first years while we waited for carpools. jeff came by around 7pm with janessa and eric and after meeting up with ian and ibsen, we got our shirts and signed up for a few games and roll out. we stopped to get supplies at Save On, then we began the trek on I-5

-- Friday Night --

Driving up to Fullerton, we were passing a Jelly Belly truck. nothing unusual, except the fact that our civic was going 80 and the truck was going 85. so we nudge up a little closer, and the truck responds by edging forward in the lane next to us. after that we knew the race was on. so since i've always wanted to be in a drag race, i'll count this as my first one. the truck with giant jelly beans painted on the side began overtaking us so jeff kept on speeding up, until in front of us a Front BC car got in our way and we couldn't move any faster. the truck was able to coast to victory while we were stuck behing what janessa describes as a "**** TJ car". well out of good sportsmanship the truck slowed down and let us have a rematch once we passed our TJ friend. jeff easily took the rematch as the truck couldn't keep up and so we were content with both vehicles winning once.

After passing everyone's favorite nuclear facility, the San Onofre power plants and having an immature but unavoidable laugh, we were on our way to find Tommy's world famous hamburger restaurant. So while in San Clemente, we happen to find Tommy's Family Restaurant. well, of course, it's the wrong one. across the street were Love Burgers, and we don't really know what Love Burgers were, so instead we continued travelling and headed to the Irvine Spectrum center to eat at Johnny Rockets. the trouble was finding parking as it seemed that every open spot had a camper waiting to steal the spot away. we had Dre & Snoop music playing and these two guys were walking by us and mad dogged us for trying to be all hardcore gangster. lol.

anyway Johnny ROckets is a 50's type diner with great shakes n stuff (but no beehive waitresses like the Corvette Diner). i ate a lot of dessert because i ate Sam Woo earlier that day and was full. while waiting for our food we played Spoons (we used straws instead though). and no it's not the card game where you need 4 of a kind. it's the game where you layout straws and you have to determine who the straws belong to. like if i lay down a symbol, you have to interpret it as to who the symbol represents. it's not that hard a game really, you just have to be quick.

and during the game i knocked my glass of water all over ibsen. >_< my bad, sorry about that ibsen if you're reading.

after eating my Oreo Sundae and Root Beer Float and onion rings and fries, we went outside to take pictures of Gay's Island: Dick's Last Resort. and don't you think for one second i'll try to explain that to you. you just have to had "been" there.

after that it was time to get to the Marriott, checking in at about 1115pm. jeff got screwed on the reservations (which we would later be compensated $30) so we only had a king size bed and one rollaway for the 6 of us to sleep in.

-- Midnight --

you know, being filipino rules. it was great to finally be among tons of my filipino peers cause every year everyone is in such a great and friendly mood. i see cute girls from colleges all over california, so i was collecting so many digits and pictures that my cell phone was running out of memory (j/k i didn't do anything, all i did was wave and say hi. and hi alice who's reading this! love u! ^^) but anyway there aren't any really shady people in the hotel which we shared with san diego state and some other colleges, so along every floor we walked around, it was bumpin. people with their cups roaming the hallways, meeting and greeting saying what's up and where u from. i didn't really meet that many people like 1st and 2nd year (which were the best ones friendship games overnights i've been on, and this year was a close 3rd). but still u know, it's good to see so many people who actually LOOK like you.

after meeting people and such, the annual security lock down came into effect, which is understandable because 200 college students will make a lot of noise. the thing is they don't prepare for it well and they always wait until it gets out of control then they scramble to call up the police and security and shut down the entire hotel. so yeah it was under no loitering in the lobby or hallway rules, so i had to go outside to talk to alice (who i think was bothering cause she was watching tv @ home). security later came and fetched me and told me to go inside so that's what i promptly did. walking up so many flights of stairs, down and up, ugh i think that's why my legs hurt even today.

we continued playing Straws, and jeff made us some midori sours which were really good. i could only drink one glass cause i got all warm and i don't ever plan on getting drunk in my life so i called it quits after that. i crashed around 2am on the rollaway.

-- Saturday (sticky icky icky oooh oooooooooohhhhhhh) --

damn it janessa means business when she wakes us up, it was like 545 and she was like hell no, no more sleeping. we had already missed the 400am wakeup call, how we missed it we have no idea, but still that boggles my mind how this year we were actually ON TIME as an organization. so as we all got into the lobby around 7am, we were the ONLY ones left in the hotel. everyone else had emptied out so we were like, oh crap. after jeff paid for the room and checked out, we went over to Cal State Fullerton and by another act of miraculous luck, we caught KP just as they were almost done registering.

i unrolled my bineg and we were able to all crash out on the grass to wait for our 25th place roll call. those of us still lagging on roll call practice had our assignments, so we all got in line backstage. of course fasa has to be pricks so they only allowed 50 of us on stage, when it was clear they only started doing that after the first few colleges had like 60 or so people up on there. so they screwed 10 of us who couldn't get on stage, but at least i got to see what roll call looked like from the front. damn our lumpia rolls own.

food wise, again it was good. bbq skewers, fried rice, pancit, longanisa, halo halo, and melon drinks? dang yo, i could eat all day if it weren't for the fact everything was pretty expensive. X-D

games wise we did pretty good this year. we finished 2nd in conveyor belt and 3rd in tidal wave. during Tidal wave i took a sweet dive into the mud as i was running up to the front, but it was all good since everyone was cheering for me and manny also ate it in the mud too. to also occupy my time, i went to go play Groundhog (running not crawling) with Cal State Northridge (by far my favorite school there) and went to watch dodgeball and double dutch jumproping and played high-jumping with the other schools by the stage. you see that's the spirit of friendship games. if someone's playing a game, all you need to do is jump right in cause everyone's invited. it makes it fun.

at the end of the day i took pics with people then went on home. during the day ash had been falling from the san bernandino fire (of course none of us new of the impending danger to our own san diego hometown) so the car was covered in ash. eating starburst along the way back to stay awake, we got back home to familiar streets and la jolla.

damn, we never knew what was going to happen the next day.
